  • TTT Tops Year End Awards Lists Once Again

Othello Top MinnPost Show, "Tight and direct, but revealing layers upon further thought, Ten Thousand Things' take on an outsider's downfall not only connected with the company's nontraditional audience, but also with anyone who has ever felt the sting, or allure, of jealousy (i.e., everyone). The limitations put on the production by its touring schedule — no lights, minimal set, small cast — all became strengths here, as the show moved with the speed and power of a freight train."

Othello in Twin City Daily Planet Top Ten, "A truly astonishing performance by Luverne Seifert as Iago, experienced at TTT's trademark point-blank range, made this one of the most powerful productions of the year. Shakespeare productions typically charge themselves with making Shakespeare's Elizabethan language accessible to contemporary audiences—which is a worthy goal, but the Bard deserves more, and he got it from Seifert, whose performance, like quicksand, drew viewers further into Iago's dark and envy-choked mind with every word. That Seifert managed to do so while also making the role very funny—even funnier, possibly, than Shakespeare intended it to be—is all the more impressive."

Raskol #3 Pioneer Press Show, "Working with local playwright Kira Obolensky and longtime collaborator Peter Vitale, Hensley and company gave Dostoevsky's tale a pulsing sense of accessibility that rewarded those familiar with the novel and welcomed those who were not. Streamlined and filled with color, light and jangly music, "Raskol" gave the classic tale a tempo that felt familiar yet new."

Raskol #7 City Pages Show, "Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment was a soul-rattling foray into the frontiers of thought and existence, presented here as a free-jazz quasi-musical that did ample justice to its resolutely urban source. The walls closed in on Kris Nelson's tortured intellectual murderer, in an eternal winter of the spirit that shook and stirred."

  • Othello is TTT's Best-Selling Show Yet!

Ten Thousand Things Theater’s season opener, Othello, was the company’s best-selling show in its 16-year history. Every free and paid performance sold out (except for Halloween!). “It’s thrilling to start the year with a show both critics and audiences from all walks of life loved,” says Artistic Director Michelle Hensley.

The run of Othello include an extra weekend of public performances two performances at correctional facilities in Duluth, made possible by a grant from Theatre Communications Group.

  • More Performances!

This summer Ten Thousand Things was awarded a major grant from Theatre Communication Group to add one additional week to all of our productions the next two seasons. Three of the shows will be for our paying audiences at Open Book and Minnesota Opera Center; the other two shows will expand TTT’s reach to outside the metro area with tours to such locations as Duluth, Silver Bay, and Willmar.

  • A Growing Year

In spite of challenging economic times, Ten Thousand Things celebrated growth during the 2008-09 season. Earned income jumped more than 10%, and Twelfth Night became the company’s best-selling show ever. Our donor base grew, and we have nearly raised the $200,000 for our Things for Artists Campaign. We applaud our audience members and donors for their commitment to the work we do and look forward to sharing a fabulous 2009-10 season with each of you.
