Peter Vitale
By the end of the 2007-2008 season, Peter will have worked on eighteen TTT productions. He normally tries, (often unsuccessfully), to avoid cliches, but his work with TTT has been a genuine "journey", beginning in 1995 as an actor in The Caucasian Chalk
Circle. During that production he found himself offering to help the production's musician and loving the opportunity to put his oddly eclectic, (some might say schizophrenic), musical experience to use. Depending on one's point of view, his resume is either a rich display of varied talents and interests, or an ADHD extravaganza. His credits as an actor/singer/instrumentalist/music director/composer include plays, musicals, operas, professional choirs, male a cappella groups, symphonies, and a smattering of film and commercial work. He's had the pleasure of working with many Twin Cities companies including the Guthrie Theater, Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Orchestra, Frank Theater, Park Square Theater, Theater Latte Da, Nautilus Music Theater, the Plymouth Music Series, Northstar Opera, and the Minnesota Jewish Theater. Since his initial days with TTT, his role has morphed from actor to sound guy, to music director and finally, to a role that he never expected, that of composer. And although he has no plans to give up his Equity card, (word on the street has it that his inner Leo still needs to be fed from time to time), he clearly enjoys these new "offstage" experiences. Peter holds a Bachelors Degree in Music from Duke University and a Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from the School of Music at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. He also spent a year at the University of North Wales studying harp, composition, orchestration and ethnomusicology.
It's generally agreed that Ten Thousand Things Theater attracts some of the smartest, most generous, and talented artists in the Twin Cities and Peter feels privileged to spend time in their company. He's consistently humbled by the gifts of his colleagues who challenge him to be the most honest, direct and creative artist he can be. That goes for the audiences as well. They provide an immediacy and unfiltered energy that he's come to love. Finally, working with TTT provides a much needed balance to the rest of his life as partner/husband/longtime companion/significant other (pick your favorite) of seventeen years to Stephen Nelson with whom he shares the joys and terrors of parenthood. Their three wonderful, busy, brilliant, loud, and time-consuming children keep their lives ever interesting, and ever challenging.
