I began working with Ten Thousand Things on the Unsinkable Molly Brown. During the rehearsal my father suffered a heart attack and I went to Duluth (my hometown) to be at his side. I called Michelle and told her she would probably have to recast the role as I was needed there and she told me something like... "Take as much time as you need, you are part of this production, your heart is, and I can't imagine us doing it without you."
Sometime later, with my father home and recovering, I came back to Minneapolis and went to Peter Vitale's house to work on the music of this production, and I had now a short time to learn my part. Peter's mom served me a wonderful dinner and everyone welcomed me with such kindness that I felt I had left home only to find a home.
There are many performances and moments which have both blessed and perhaps scarred me a little. The visceral reality of telling a tale the old way and holding an audience's attention have helped forge whoever I am as a performer.
I am thankful to Michelle, to all the incredible artists I've got to work with, and finally to our audience who taught me how to make a story into theater.
